My Academic Career Analysis

During my undergraduate years, I found a part of myself that I can place forward with confidence in my academic career. Since I am the first generation who has obtained two college degrees, they are my biggest accomplishments and successes. These milestones have only motivated me to further my education and take advantage of this valuable opportunity. Working with children and adolescents is a passion of mine and the majority of my work history pertains to building experiences and relationships within that population. Since children and adolescents are the most vulnerable, my interests incline towards helping them through the toughest situations including dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, and preventing the development of chronic …show more content…
Although it is not what I intended to work in before graduate school, it is difficult to find a job and this one is helping me develop skills that will benefit my career. Management positions offer self-discipline, organization skills, multi-tasking skills, and social skills. Engaging with customers is keeping my choice of words concise, shaping my tone of voice, and the way I read body language. The management team and staff consist of individuals of all racial and ethnic backgrounds such as African American, Hispanic, Caucasian and Asian. It is diverse with well-rounded people who nourish my mind and creativity every day at work. We are ranked number one in UPT (Unit Per Transaction) with 4.9 in the state of Florida and ranked second in ATV (Average Transaction Value) since I began working there. The duties of my position include updating marketing, working overnight floor sets, managing business hours, making schedules, counting registers, deposits, cleaning routines, and weekly tasks. It is an overwhelming experience, but it is strengthening the way I prioritize myself. According to an article published by The Huffington Post back in 2014, American teenagers are the most stressed out age-group in the United States. There is a shortage of health clinicians and one of the roles I particularly have in mind is providing interventions to those primarily in middle-and-low income households. Pediatric psychologists work in a variety of settings which fit my personality better. I enjoy different sceneries in which I am mentally and physically challenged. Moreover, volunteering at the Special Olympics gave me gratification and I know I have the opportunity to also assist children and adolescents with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. The PhD program for the Pediatric Health track focuses on the topics suited to fulfill my interests with detailed and rigorous coursework. To be acquainted with individuals who are devoting their time to master this area of expertise is exciting and I am looking forward to the challenges and growth opportunities ahead of
