My journey first began when I decided to attend The University of Iowa in the fall of 2013 after graduating from Urbandale High School. I attended Iowa for 2 years and then when it came time to choose where I would apply to nursing school at I was stuck between wanting to continue on at Iowa’s College of Nursing, pending on my acceptance, but also needing a change in my life. I decided to choose change and Mercy College of Health Sciences presented an opportunity for just that. There is a program offered at Mercy College of Health Sciences (MCOHS) that was too good for me to pass up. My current focus has been on achieving my BSN and the program I had heard about was fairly new but provided an opportunity for me to get my BSN while doing it in only 2 short years.…

Abortion Abortion became a primary issue with the court case Roe v. Wade when a decision was made by the Supreme Court in 1973 regarding the subject. The courts later changed certain parts of their decision with the court case Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey in 1992. The cases fought over the rights to receive an abortion and argued the right to do so through means of the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment and the Right to Privacy implied in previous cases. While some argued that it didn’t follow history or traditions the verdict ended, with a very close vote, with the right to abortion being allowed under specific circumstances.…
The road to becoming a doctor is unquestionably arduous and daunting, but it is one of the most intellectually engaging and fulfilling experiences of their lives. Being surrounded by like-minded teens naturally led to the formation of the closest friendships I have, for which I am extremely thankful for. I would not trade my time at OU Medical Center for the world because it allowed me to flourish into a mature teen with a more established idea of my…
With a mission devoted to providing an unparalleled medical education, focused upon the improvement of community health, service to underserved populations, and promotion of diversity, I believe Morehouse School of Medicine can provide me with a rich medical experience that will lend itself well to my development as a medical student and aspiring physician. An emphasis on serving underserved groups, such as minorities, and addressing current health disparities were my primary motivations for applying to Morehouse School of Medicine. Following residency, I hope to practice medicine in a community limited in terms of affordability, accessibility, and availability of healthcare options. In such a community, I can utilize my medical education for the purpose of addressing the health concerns and disparities affecting those in society who are often ignored and suffer in health as a result.…

The 1800’s is when anti-abortion laws started to become a big part of American society. America had separated itself from England but continued to model some of its laws after England’s. Since the times of the American Colonies, abortion has been one of the biggest controversies in America and many laws about abortion have been passed and vetoed. The history of abortion is just as interesting as what the future holds for abortion.…
The practice of abortion was not always legal in the United States. Before the Roe v. Wade court decision of 1973, women across the country seeked alternative and typically illegal methods to terminate their pregnancy, known as “back-alley” abortions. Although it is rumored that these abortions were performed by unlicensed unprofessionals, many of these abortions were performed illegally by physicians. Contrasting to a common myth, the term “back-alley” derives from how a woman was instructed to enter the doctor’s office, not to where these abortions were performed. Some desperate women sought to abort their pregnancies on their own.…

Abortion techniques were developed as early as 1550 BC by an Egyptian medical expert. Throughout much of history, abortion was not a crime as long as it was done before the “quickening” stage. The “quickening” stage is the first detectable movement of the fetus. It can start between week 13 through week 25 of the pregnancy. American states got their initial abortion laws from the British common law.…

Parents should not be allowed to play God or Nature to choose a child's gender. Women are choosing the gender of their children for reasons such as genetic diseases, family balancing, or just wanting the choice. According to Sureau , " In the prevention of X-linked diseases, e.g. Duchenne myopathy, haemophilia, there are the following choices: (i) pre-natal diagnosis, followed by medical termination if the fetus is male or termination which is restricted to affected male fetuses; (ii) pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) with either rejection of any XY offspring, or rejection of only affected male embryos; and (iii) pre-fertilization gender selection, when medically available" (1999). In the past people did not know until they had their…
I grew up in a big family from both sides of my parents, my intermediate family consist of my three brothers and both my parents. For most of my life I seen my cousins from both sides of my family either just graduating from high school, going to community college but eventually dropping out or cousins getting pregnant at an early age. The ones who are like that lack the ambition to further their education and have a successful career. It wasn’t until I was in middle school that I saw two of my cousins from my entire family go to a university. One went to a university in Bakersfield and the other one went to UCR, and from then on it got me thinking about going to a four year university.…
