My Ability To Do Well In Medical School (MCAT)

In a recent interview, an interviewer seemed very doubtful in my abilities to do well in medical school because I took my MCAT three times. This has been on my mind a lot and made me wonder if the admissions committee here had the same notion. I would like to spend time to clarify and hopefully eliminate any doubts the committee may have in my ability to do well in medical school and also be a great clinician.
Some may view the fact that I took the MCAT three times as it took me three tries to finally get it right, but I don’t. I believe that it only took one with the right resources. For my first exam, I spent 9 weeks studying and outlining ¾ of my chemistry, biology, physics, and organic chemistry textbooks, in addition to approximately ¼ of my biochemistry textbooks. While they were great a

I wasted 6-14 hours of my days agonizing over minute detail, thinking that anything could possibly be tested. After taking my MCAT, I knew I could do better and that I hadn’t done my best not because I didn’t study enough, but because I didn’t have the proper resources to guide my studying. I couldn’t settle with the fact that I knew I didn’t reach my maximum potential and embarked to taking the exam again even before I knew my scores. I resolved that no matter what the score was, high or low, I wouldn’t be content. In my second attempted, I used the ExamKracker’s 1001 book series that a classmate, who had taken his MCAT the same date as mine, had given to me. They did more harm than good as I hadn’t realize that those books were intended to be used for practicing and drilling concepts, not as representation of the type of questions that would be asked on the actual exam. In the process, I burned myself out spending 16 hour days drilling questions that were not representative of the exam. This

don't envy the hard job that the Howard Medical School admissions committee has. Out of thousands of very qualified, competitive, and very competent applicants the committee must decide who fits best with the program and who will have the most to offer the school and the community which it serves. Like most, my young professional career is decorated with academic accomplishment and personal achievement. Today, however, I would like the committee to evaluate my readiness for medical school not only based on my achievements and personal success, but, more importantly, I would also like to be evaluated by the actions I took in the face of failure. It is no secret, the MCAT has been an uphill battle for me.…

I would like to address my low MCAT score. When preparing for the MCAT, I was able to increase my scores on the practice exam to a 505. However, due to poor time management during the actual exam, I was unable to complete a majority of questions and answers on two sections. After receiving my rather devastating, but not surprising score, I immediately signed up to retake the exam at the next available date, as I was under the impression that my low score was the result of my lack of time management. While my time management improved significantly on the second attempt, and I was able to improve my score, the score was still not even close to what I had scored on my practice exams.…

Appropriately specific brief summary of MCK Test results. It was during week three that I completed the Mathematical Content Knowledge (MCK) test for the purposes of determining my level of understanding relating to certain mathematical concepts, such as multiplication, division, addition, and place value (Curtin, 2014). Before starting, I felt overly confident in my ability to successfully answer all the questions within the quiz, however, it was not until I skimmed through the questions that I began to think otherwise. The beliefs in myself concerning mathematics is one of duality: I know that I am more than capable of solving complex questions, yet I am also conscious of my lacking motivation behind the subject itself which stems from…

One experience was actually during one of my lowest moments in high school; the time I cheated on a Chemistry test. I've always been stellar at chemistry, but my peers in my class weren’t as much.…
