My family is very important to me: I help take care of my younger siblings and I occasionally do chores to help lighten my mom's work load. School is also very important to me, I try to do my best in school and understand the material and I do feel like giving up sometimes but then I ask for help and try again. School is so important to me because I know that what I do is for me and I am working hard now so that I can go to a good college and get a good job, my dad always tells me to work hard now and the work will pay off in the future. My parents encourage me to do good so that I can get a better job than them so that I don’t have to work as hard as they do, therefore I do my best to make my parents happy and I know that if I do good it will benefit me in the future. Working part time job, having to support a child and other family member truly prevent college students to fully focus on fishing up school. Going part time schooling take longer and it put our mind to focus on something else, such as money, transportations, and time with family. Tuition and books are really expansive if finical aid and scholarship does not cover. It is hard to make new friends and get to know other who is going into the same program I’m going because of the environment of the class. KCC should use CUNY ASAP program to help increase the completion rate.…

Personally, I think understanding the ACE's influences my knowledge about adolescents and young adults in a big way. When we see children who are sick, we might assume that they have a cold or were born with a disease. When we see a child who is withdrawn, we might assume they are shy or have a problem socializing with their peers. When we see a child that is all over the place, we might assume they are energetic or ADHD. However, because of the ACE's we now know that these factors could be the result of childhood trauma.…

At an early age, I didn’t understand the concept of an immigrant family and that our resources were very limited. It wasn’t until I got older, that I finally understood and recognized the struggle that my family went and still continues to go through. My realization began when I was about 11-years old and I noticed that my father not only worked for his own small gardening service, but that he also took my older brothers to work with him. I knew it was a time for serious measures because my brothers started helping my father when they were close to my age, and they continued throughout their whole school years. Everything was going normal in my family then, we rented a house that was in the name of my aunt, had enough money for the bills,…

In light of President Obama’s ambitious proposal to make community college tuition free, the talk about two year institutions has been centered around reform that would encourage greater student success . In his 2015 State of The Union President Obama addressed the importance of securing financial stability for the middle class and stated, “By the end of this decade 2 in 3…
