My A4 History Class

Junior year for me was a large step towards conceptual growth. Consisting of Advanced Placement courses, SAT’s, ACT’s, SBACS, and other demanding activities. It’s a time to develop your understanding of large ideas like morality, responsibility, and self awareness. Legacies, my A4 history class delved into these core concepts and opened up a pathway to how we perceive certain things. Throughout the year, we reviewed history and current events of belief, change & revolution, power, and morality. I learned about how and why holidays are practiced, to the struggle and impacts of controlling power. Our last unit of the school year, my class explored four sections of morality: Choosing to participate, historical case study, identity & membership, and judgment & memory. One purpose of viewing history is to learn about how people have abused core concepts like belief, power, and morality so it cannot repeat itself. Prior to this class I always associated history separate from today's events. A course long essential question is “What are the historical sources of disparity, tension and conflict in the contemporary world?”. Learning about the Holocaust in unit 4, I saw the atrocities to Jews in Europe. The Nazi party gained power within Germany by untrue propaganda about Jews. Promotion made it easy for non-Jewish German citizens to become self involved in Jewish aggression, without consciously knowing it. Since these people were 'in the clear', they never challenged Nazi powers because they were not the ones being suppressed.
