Mustang Choir Concert Essay

On May 9, 2015, Garvey’s Advanced Band and Mustang Choir went to the Trills and Thrills Festival at Burbank Middle School. We had to be at school by 7:15 AM since it was our call time, and that was way too early for me since I usually sleep at 12 AM. I was in Advanced Band and I played the clarinet. Of course I was excited to play at the competition, but I was also nervous since we were going to Six Flags afterwards and I had a huge fear of heights. Once the bus arrived at Burbank Middle School at 10:30 A.M., we setted up our instruments and played our daily warm up which is the Concert B Flat scale. Afterwards, we walked onto the stage and the lights started to dim. A voice projected by the speaker in front of the room told us, “You may begin.” The first song we played was “Dorchester” which was a festival song with an upbeat tempo. This was a ride where you sit in a raft with a group and they send you down a river with the risk of getting wet. I thought this ride would be a peaceful way to calm my nerves after the thrill rides. However, what really made me question it was the smell of the water. It smelled like gym socks combined with water soaked in moss. When I finally sat down on the raft, I felt unsafe because the seatbelts were suppose to stick to the other piece but since it has been in the water for too long, the sticky part became smooth. Thus, we didn’t have any seatbelts on and as a result, we could fall into the water. Fortunately for me, I barely got wet which is a blessing for me because I didn’t have a change of clothes. Whereas, my friends, Ken, Ray, and Paula, got drenched. Their hair was soaked and they had to twist their clothes to get all the water out.
