The world was plunged into World War 2 in 1939 because of the dictorial regimes that governed in Germany and Italy, as well as the military of Japan. These leaders took control after the Great Depression and they seeked for more power, which in this case was land and natural resources. To stop Hitler, Mussolini, and the military of Japan the French, British, and others appeased them because they feared another disastrous war like World War 1. However, I believe that the most effective way to have stopped the leaders would have been collective security. If the French, British, and others had chosen collective security the situation would have come out differently. As I previously mentioned, the leaders wanted more power. For this reason, Mussolini invaded Ethiopia. At that time, Haile Selassie was the emperor of Ethiopia and when he was being attacked he looked upon the League of Nations for help. However, the League of Nations didn't help Haile Selassie and he said, " God and History will remember your judgement ....It is us today. It will be you tomorrow." To clarify in different terms, Selassie warned the League of Nations that they will be next and told them that they will regret not coming to assist Ethiopia. This was an opportunity to stop Mussolini and like Hitler, the opportunity was lost. In a way the League of Nations appeased Mussolini because they let him obtain what he desired, when the situation could have been confronted. Maybe the situation woud have been different if the League of Nations united with Ethiopia to defeat Mussolini. Given these points, collective security might have stopped Mussolini at that …show more content…
Japan intitiated with the invasion of Manchuria. The reason Japan seized Manchuria was to get a hold of the the natural resources it provided. In Chapter 11 from World History Modern Times, it says, "The United States refused to recognize the Japanese takeover of Manchuria but was unwilling to threaten force." In other words, the United States appeased Japan and let them get away with what they did. Moreover, the Japanese military headed towards Southeast Asia next for its raw materials and they demanded the right to exploit economic resources in French Indochina. However, in doing so, the Japanese would risk war not only with the United States but with Europe as well. The United States warned Japan with economic sanctions if they continued with the invasion of Southeast Asia. The Japanese needed those resources that economic sanction cut off therefore, Japan launched an attack on Pearl Harbor in the United States in December 7, 1941. Consequently, the United States was pulled into the war. Looking back, maybe if the United States had gathered with other powers to stop Japan at the beginning when it was invading Manchuria, they might have avoided this whole

It seems that, in that sense, Mussolini did fulfil his dream to emulate Caesar. Leading fascists such as Dino Grandi and Galeazzo Ciano had been planning to depose Mussolini since 1942, however it was the Allied invasion of Sicily that set it into motion, demonstrating the weakness of Italy and the fascist regime. Another important cause for the disastrous attack on Pearl by the Japanese was that President Roosevelt furthered its “Moral Embargo” by expanding its restrictions to oil and scrap metal to stop Japan from expanding. At the beginning of 1900’s Japan was falling apart as they were running out of raw materials and oil. Japan decided that to survive they had to expand within Asia to get more materials so they invaded French Indochina in 1940 to embargo all imports to China which included war supplies purchased from the U.S. From this move on June 14, 1941 United States placed an embargo on Japan for any import or export and trade transactions of oil. United States had economic interests on Asia and if they stopped materials and oil to Japan…

The attack by the Japanese Imperial Navy on the US Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii prompted the United States to join World War II and completely destroyed the already tenuous relationship between Japan and the United States. The attack on Pearl Harbor was caused by the failing relationship that came to fruition during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The only possible defense for the Japanese attack comes from a fervent Japanese imperialist. The Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th, 1941 was uncalled for and was not beneficial to Japan, so there is no reason the attack was justified. From 1931 until the end of World War II Japanese behavior and foreign policy was unacceptable.…

This was a task found as nearly impossible, due to Germany’s fascist leader who craved more and more power. The country’s leaders weren’t sure whether they should use an appeasement, or collective security to deal with him. Also, there were many things that were done to begin this Second World War. The reason why WWI happened is mostly because of Hitler and his violent actions, and the best way to deal with Hitler’s aggression is by using collective security.…
