Healthy Muslims fast for the complete month, it is done as an act of worship, spiritual reflection and obedience to Allah. During this time, Muslims abstain from all food, drink and any kind of sexual contact. The spiritual aspects of the fast include refraining from gossip, lies, obscenity and any sinful act. Muslims are required to start fasting when they reach puberty. People who are sick, traveling, and pregnant or nursing may break their fast, but may make up the days later in the year. Muslims believe that all messengers were revealed throughout history to humans through specially appointed prophets , or messengers by God. Starting with the first man, Adam, who they consider the first prophet. The Qur’an mentions the names of 25 prophets, including Jesus, Abraham, Noah, Isaac and Moses. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the last and greatest prophet of God – “the seal of the prophets.” He established Islam as the religion of all Arabia in 630 A.D. The key message brought by all Prophets was to believe in One God, to stay away from sins and to lead a life devoted to earning God’s pleasure.
Muslims also believe in the Day of Judgment (the Day of Resurrection), often referred to as life after death.
