I knew that I wanted to study musical theatre in college when I was apart of the acting ensemble my freshman year at the School of Arts and Enterprise; our theatre community loved musical theatre. We had a project called performance boards which is modeled after a college audition, I had to pick two contrasting monologues and two contrasting songs and perform my material in front of a panel. If we didn’t meet the work ethic and potential the panel was looking for then we got cut from the acting ensemble. I wasn’t one of the students that got cut. Through the project I learned that musical theatre was an art form I wanted to pursue.
