My family moved to Jackson 13.5 years ago and while we’ve been here we’ve attended only two churches. We’ve just recently switched churches because of a conflict of interests, but we attended the first church, Bethel, for a long time. To start out, I have had a love for music as long as I can remember. I believe my love of music originated from my mother, who was teaching me music by the age of 2. My love of music has sprouted over the years with 11 years of choir, 3 musicals, and 1 year of select choir. Now I don’t consider myself the best singer in the world; however, I was begged to be in Beauty and the Beast as a chorus member if that says anything to my singing ability. To the say the least, I have a love for music; therefore, I decided …show more content…
He slowly sat down and began mini-speech. I don’t remember word for word what he said maybe because I was incredulous at what he said next, but what he said went something like this, “Ethan, we need to talk. I believe that you have talents the Lord has given you; however, I don’t think singing is one of them. We [the two worship leaders] have decided that you stink at singing and you should never really sing again. We’re not going to let you on the worship team because you would ruin our sound, but you can stay in the church choir because there are people who can cover up your voice. I hope this doesn’t hurt your feelings bud.” After what felt like an eternity my whole world came crashing down as the man’s malicious words penetrated into my very soul. Needless to say my mother was enraged and tore into Patrick’s office and after a long and hard battle they decided to agree to disagree. Even though, I did not want to my mother coerced me to show up every Wednesday anyways. During one of the choir rehearsals several weeks later my blood finally boiled. The Mr. Cummings was talking to me all of the sudden he asked me about worship team. To my surprise he had never talked to Patrick about my

The first Broadway musical I enjoyed was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I was about thirteen years old. It was more elaborate than the small performances at Disney World. There was more music, elaborate set designs, and more seats in theater. I was very impressed by the singing and actors ability to flow through the material.…

Music has played a gigantic role in defining who I am. When I was little I was always involved in music. Even if it was not me making the music, I was always bopping my head along or tapping my foot to the beat of the music. My parents were surprised to find out that I was the child that was fascinated by the marching band walking in the parade. I knew by a young age that I wanted to be in that band.…

Failure is not characterized by what is lost, but instead by the lessons one learns from the experience. An area of my life in which I’ve faced many struggles has been music. Ever since a young age, I have been truly passionate about music; from singing, to dancing, to playing piano and percussion. Nothing makes me happier than succeeding in something I care about, but often it is extremely difficult to achieve musical honors due to the exceptionally talented competition. Two years in a row, I failed to make the Iowa All-State Chorus.…

Every Fall in the state of Iowa, thousands of music students spend several months preparing to audition for the All-State music festival. As a senior I wanted to walk into the audition room knowing that I could give the best performance I was capable of and hopefully make it into All-State. The summer before my senior year, I put aside my shyness and started taking voice lessons. My voice teacher told me at every lesson to come back better than today. In the following weeks through summer and early fall, I immersed myself with the audition music, it played constantly in my car and I would leave class early to get in an extra practice during the day.…

Choir Is Cult Only Slightly Less Cultish Than Band It wasn’t really a question on whether or not I was going to join choir Freshman year. I had always been in some kind’ve choir since pretty much birth-- we’ve got some pretty sick videoes of me making whale sounds as a baby to prove it--from single digits to double digits, I’d always been singing. Freshman year, I sat in the front row, four chairs in on the right of the choir with Spencer Evoy to my left.…
