Several of the songs tell a story that fills your soul with warmth. I could hear the sorrow, happiness, and the love in the voice of the singer. Not only could I hear it, but could feel it pulse throughout my veins and every beat of my heart. Needless to say, it made me want to be the person they sang about. When I am attending a concert, there are certain criteria that I look for to determine if it was an excellent concert. Not only the music needs to touch my soul, but needs to captivate my eye. First criteria, the band should play music that I find entertaining in addition, it appeals not only to my ear but to my emotions, as well. I want to be able to envision every word and hear the story the song tells as it was my own. Many people, including myself, relate their lives through music. When the band sings of songs that you can relate to, it can bring back a childhood memory. It could take you back in time and to a place you once were. It makes you think of lost loves, loves of the past and presents. It can make you think of the future, or how times have changed from the years gone by. My second criteria, stage presence are significant to every concert. The stage needs to have a captivating lighting system.

I was fortunate enough to attend this concert just before my 16th birthday on June 8, 2013, it was the Styx 'Midwest Rock 'n ' Roll Express ' tour. The music they put forth was amazing. Their style of music was soft and moving as well as, upbeat and edgy. When they sang the song “Babe” I could feel the emotion and hear the love he had for the woman he must leave behind. I could sense how he was going to miss her and would be thinking of her when he was gone. In addition, another song they performed was “Come Sail Away” When they sang this enchanting song, and I closed my eyes and could envision being on the ship. As I was listening to the lyrics I learned they are sailing on the Virgin Sea and the Captain is reflecting on his life. As he was looking into the sky, he thought he was seeing angels, but was actually seeing beings from another universe. The performance of the song “Lady” tells the story of a man and a woman.
