Essay Music Therapy : Help People With Illnesses
The profession of music therapy started during World War I and World War II. It was used when soldiers were in the hospital and the nurses needed to distract the soldiers from their traumatic injuries. Soldiers would engage in activities that involved music to focus on relieving pain. When soldiers would engage in these music activities, doctors and nurses would see the effect that music had on soldiers’ psychological, physiological, and emotional state.
In 1950 an organization called the National Association for Music Therapy (NAMT) was formed. The organization formed by a collaboration of music therapist who helped veterans, mentally retarded, and people who were visually impaired. In 1998 the National Association for Music Therapy joined together with another organization that was called American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
