Essay 2 I think music has a role in politics, even though a lot of people think that music does not have a part in politics. There is a lot of rap artist who have released several political albums. Mos Def, Public Enemy, and Killer Mike are some of the good musicians who has released critically acclaimed political albums. First of all, I think Music should have a role in politics and not just stay within the realm of entertainment. Public Enemy is a good example because they express in their rhymes things about radical political views and rapped about the discrimination colored people went through around the time their first album came out titled Yo! Bum Rush the Show in 1987. …show more content…
In the article it states that he “presented the second lecture in MIT’s Hip Hop speaker Series, Race Relations in the US.” He also explored other topics like music, misogyny, community activism, and cultural appropriation, social media and police brutality. His fourth studio album titled Pl3dge which is the third in the I pledge allegiance to the grind album series is also a good political album. Because he tones down the crack talk in favor of diatribes against Sarah Palin and Nancy Pelosi and the Christian church. In Conclusion, Public Enemy and their political views, Mos Def and what he does, and Killer Mike and his activism are good reasons why musicians should have a major role in politics and not just stay within the realm of entertainment.
