The morning of Saturday, November 18th, I woke up and was extremely tempted to open up Pandora on my phone. I utilize the music streaming app to get me energized for what should be a momentous day. It was like it was wired in my brain that I had to be playing music as I brushed my teeth and straightened my hair for work. Even when I got into the car with my parents, it was strange not being able to sing along to the radio while driving through town. I had to tell my parents not to turn on the radio because I was doing a class assignment.

Music is a huge part of today’s cultural diversity. In our mediated culture, music reflects what goes on in society and outlines the type of culture we live in. I personally follow a functionalist perspective and believe that music contributes a lot to society. It spreads ideals, cultural notions, and diversity all across the globe. The perspective was identified by functionalist Charles Wright and claimed that media (which includes tv, radio, music etc.), is highly valuable to culture. He additionally believed that media accommodates society as stress relievers which avails convivial conflicts stay at an absolute
