In my teaching episode, I desired to break down the line of music I was teaching based on musicianship standards of rhythm and pitch/melody. I wanted to teach the piece from the ground up starting with rhythm; having the ensemble count and clap the piece. Then, after rhythm was practiced and understood, I wanted the ensemble to sing the melody and have the pitches of the notes in their ear before playing the piece on their instruments. Furthermore, I wanted to connect pitches to fingerings by having the ensemble sing the melody while the ensemble fingered the notes on their instruments. Finally, after rhythm and pitch were solidified, I wanted to have the students to play through the entire piece. I also wanted to monitor how effective my instructions
