Art is a very broad topic. There are a lot of things that can be considered art. Everything from paintings to carpentry can be considered art. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines art as, “Something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings.” Some people may not agree with this definition. There can be good art and bad art, but at the end of the day if it is an expression of somebody’s emotions or thoughts, it’s art, whether one likes it or not. This is why the definition of art is so subjective.
Somebody can throw paint on a canvas and call it art, but is it really art? This is dependent on the

Where is the skill?” Another person might see it and somehow look at this splash as an expression of anger or frustration with the society we live in. Art is not something that can really be held to rigid standards since it is an expression of emotion. People express themselves in completely different ways from each other and enjoy different things. Skill also plays a big part in what defines art. Some people would say that a child’s scribbly drawing of the family dog is no more art than a piece of trash from the garbage. Is this true though? It’s still an expression of the child’s love for the dog, it’s just not very skillfully drawing. If art is defined solely by skill then at what point does an artist start making art? I feel that if an artist gets their point across they’ve created art in a sense. If they create a painting to express their frustration with society and people can look at it and say, “Wow, they must be frustrated with
