Discuss the impact on employees of working long hours. What is the impact on productivity? Morale?
In today’s economic reality, the root cause of low employee morale and productivity can include job security issues such as uncertain business conditions, working long hours etc. Morale is a state of mind which involves feelings and emotions. It is often considered an elusive quality created within each employee. It involves the attitude and perception towards the job, work environment, and the organization on a whole. Positive employee morale is usually exhibited by confidence, discipline and willingness to perform. Even if the guarantee is not certain they would have the maximum hours with all advantages that come with a full-time work because 40 hours of work per week is described as full time job. Regarding the dependents, companies are responsible for offering coverage to full-time employees and their dependents. They do not, however, have to offer coverage to spouses. For example, under transitional relief, employers that do not currently cover dependents won’t face penalties in 2015 as long as they extend benefits to dependents for the plan year beginning in 2016. Wage and hour laws also regulate overtime pay. The federal government does not place limits on the number of hours adults may work per week, but after 40 hours, time and a half must be paid. It is true and necessary that we must also devote time to other activities such as family, entertainment and passion, but I think that 40 hours are not too much and are just at the limit between the work and devoted time for ourselves. What is criticized and abusive, I consider the overtimes of those who work 70 to 80 hours per week. This can really affect their health and also impact their marriages, because when we move away from set work hours we run into the issues with boundaries between work and life that are having a significantly negative impact on employees in many cases leading to higher levels …show more content…
He was not trying to be the best boss but a visionary leader. Today, many companies are more interested to make profits, instead of the well-being of their employees. Putting employees at the heart of the company 's concern certainly will provides good performance for the company. Mulally’s strategy about "focus on four things" made the company reconnecting with its external environment while relying on its values and standards it promotes to achieve its objectives. The formula is simple and has allowed the company to improve its image in the fray. It paid off when we look back the 2008 crisis that had spared no industry. The crisis reach the point that the largest companies including the ones in the automotive sector have to turn to the financial aid from the government to be able to exist and continue to function. It 's like Mulally had a vision and knew what was expected and would have happened. He had already prepared his company and his employees to face the crisis with as much cash that Ford had in its possession. In his philosophy of "do not manages your career. Follow your dream and contribute", he has already described how a company should operate nowadays. Company must place the human value by drawing from each employees the strength to be more competitive in a very unstable and unpredictable environment; everyone’s opinion
