Many industries in current years seem to be balancing between men and women running businesses and fields. As titles hold, however, it seems the U.K. music industry is lead by men, not women. With the surprising 59% of women at an entry-level in the music industry, how does the view from the top seem to be a biased majority of males? Not only are white women entering the music industry and never seeing the top, also women of many other races will almost never see the top. Some men blame in on the fact that around thirty to forty, women settle down to have kids. One women who works in the industry even claimed the music industry "is a man’s world and it is still a tough place to be as a woman”.
Some people disagree with this, however, and believe everyone has a fair shot to the top, despite gender differences. The managing director of Decca records, Rebecca Allen openly stated: “I honestly believe that the door is wide open to women. Young women I’ve come across in the last few years have no fear and quite frankly stand as tall, if not taller, than their male colleagues. It gets harder for everyone going up

music industry. No one knows the industry as well as the workers and leaders of the industry do. The article was extremely well written, it showed both sides of the argument and seemed only mildly biased on the women's side. The tone seems serious but not irate or objective. The author knows the point she longs to make, but sticks to the facts rather than the opinion. The article definitely leans more towards the lack of women in the top of the industry, but does touch on the fact not everyone agrees it’s a mans' world. The article does feel as if it is lacking something needed in it, perhaps more statistics on the men to women ratio. Overall the article seems to be well written and wisely spoken from a needed balance of

The fact that it is still a boy’s club industry is still negatively affecting the current situation for women. Furthermore, the men are not taught how to value their female counterparts properly. Possibly by a change in the hierarchy and some company training could help make the workplace more open-minded. Nonetheless, it was interesting to learn about the publication industry’s hidden issue. The insights I come away with are that it is highly necessary for people to stand up for themselves if they feel are being discriminated by who they are and not be defined by their quality as a person and…

All four of the articles show the disparities that exist within the work environment. “The Glass Escalator” by Christine L. Williams showed how men not only face a huge advantage in female dominated careers but also discrimination. “The Global Woman” by Barbara Ehrenreich and Arlie Russell Hochschild tell how many immigrant women are leaving their home countries at alarming rates to take on domestic jobs elsewhere. “The Globetrotting Sneaker” by Cynthia Enloe is about how many companies benefit from globalization, and use it as a tool to dehumanize and mistreat women in foreign countries. Lastly, “Fort Bragg: Command” by Jefferey McGowan details how biased the military was, and still is, against homosexuals, especially during the “Don’t…

Throughout the years, song writers have relied on music as an outlet for self expression, however more often than not, gender bias and sexism are predominantly integrated into the lyrics of mainstream music. Misogyny in the music industry has continuously been a prevailing issue, and with little to no alteration over the years, gender bias in favouring men has never been more abundant in today’s society. Artists induce patriarchy by implementing degrading lyrics and sexist verses towards women, all of which succumb females to continuously live in a culture that subjugates and oppresses women (KBrady, 2012). “Kill You”, released in 2000 by popular American rapper Eminem, evidently encompasses misogyny by using derogatory and offensive lyrics…

I’m sitting alone in the front pew of the University of Virginia Chapel on a cold December night. In front of me there is a tall metal stand with a set of bongos perched precariously atop. Behind me sits the entire crowd of the sold out Virginia Women’s Chorus Candlelight Concert. When I arrived in Charlottesville months earlier, I could have never expected to be here. I have just finished performing a piece with the chorus minutes earlier, when a member of the chorus steps forward and addresses the audience to explain and introduce the next piece.…

It’s important to take note of how the culture deals with genders and whether that’s something they take into account. All of the ‘influential’ artist that were named in this film had given themselves a non binary name but they all still happened be men. Could there be no female participating in the culture or could they, just like any other genre, not be given the platform and recognition that they deserve. So I googled ‘Female EDM artist’ but was only given articles with titles like ‘11 Sexiest Woman Within the EDM Scene’ and articles about how the ‘EDM Scene’ is a ‘Sausage fest’ and that there aren’t many female artists involved in the scene. I’ve acknowledge that my film itself is very male driven and most of the people in it were men.…

From the beginning of this enormously popular genre, Women waited patiently to find a way and to be accepted into this “man’s world.” As years past this continued to be an issue for women as they tried to knock down those doors and even today one can argue that women continue to fight for that spot that they rightfully deserve. However, over the course of this time there have been many “rocker chicks” that’ve influenced and paved the way for many feminist after them. Much of that is very true. In comparison to the early days of Jinx, The Runaways, and Wendy, there are far more women in the industry of heavier music. When scouring the internet for metal bands with female members, you can easily find at least one-hundred current bands with active female members. Women were encouraged to fit into the set gender roles during that time, and many things (Things that are basic human rights such as the right to vocalizing one’s opinions or the right to a higher education), went against the traditional set of morals for a woman in that time.…

Women’s Place in the Workplace With the use of many scholarly sources this report will explore the issue of gender wage gap with respect to men and women in the work force, mainly in Canada. Gender wage gap has been around for centuries, from before work was paid in wages and women were regarded as non-skilled workers, to present day where women are seen making $0.74 for every dollar a man makes in the same position. These issues of gender wage gap are as much related to gender discrimination as they are to the pre-determined social expectations of men and women. This report will explore the questions of why is there such a large pay gap, does a women’s position within a company determine the size of the gender wage gap, and finally, is there…
