Juvenile delinquency was a national topic of discussion in the 1950’s. A movement of censorship swept through as a result of parents fearing Rock ‘n’ Roll’s challenge to traditional values and abstinence. The campaign was successful in making artists and producers of Rock ‘n’ Roll more reserved in the music they made. In doing so, they failed to damage the industry as a whole. The word censorship defines as blocking something from being heard, seen or read. I believe that there was a time that when censorship should be appropriate for the First Amendment. Although the First Amendment is about the free flow of information, ideas, and opinions that can be expressed in our society by responsible citizens, however, our government should be able to regulate the speech through the court consistently to determine if the government’s reason outweighs the importance of our democratic freedoms with ethical responsibilities. Censorship can also be an act of changing a message, including the change of deletion (complete removal of the message of the news or what was said), between the sender and the receiver. In essence, this means that governmental censorship would primarily attempt to stop an unintentional effect of certain speech or expression on the Internet; in other words, the government would be opposing the idea of individualism in society.…

Despite the many different genres of music we know and love, without music, how could we ever express ourselves? If there were never any way for us to “rebel” against humanity, we would have no purpose in this world, and we would all be the same. With that said, maybe music censorship may be going too far to control what Americans are exposed to; this is the free world after all, right? In conclusion, it may be time to settle the dust on the issue of music censorship and allow parents to raise their children how they wish, while still allowing the American people to express ourselves in one of the only ways we know how, through…

Although these politicians may have a point, they weren’t too concerned with this issue until Eminem started gaining momentum in the African-American exclusive hip hop genre. Eminem’s sudden rise in popularity started attracting young white people to the genre and felt the power of his controversial explicit lyrics. This caught the attention of the Federal Communications Commission or the FCC, the regulators of interstate communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable in all 50 states.
