Words cannot describe my feelings this moment as we are approaching to the end of this semester, both bitter and sweet. Never thought I would say this, but I really did enjoy this course. Learned things I did not give second thoughts on before, and appreciated music more than ever. One of my favorite piece is Bach’s Little Fugue in G Minor, his music speaks to one’s soul. The Fugues are well known for using counterpoint and this piece stays true to their reputation. The same melodic motif is mostly repeated throughout the piece. However, the clever use of counterpoint creates interesting textures which are refreshing to hear.

Music is a universal language. Most civilizations have contributed greatly to music knowledge. Music occupies a special place in people’s lives. From the Gregorian chant, to 21st century popular music, music has been a constant part of the human experience.
Music appreciation is important. It helps a student appreciate the music elements from different historic eras and how they have contributed to the growth of music. For instance, Johann Sebastian Bach has contributed greatly to four part harmony or chorale writing. Taking this study also helps us to understand the process of making music. Learning how different elements work together to make music also helps students to have an elaborate creative process. Having an understanding of how the creative process works is useful in other endeavors unrelated to music.
Moreover, music is a universal language, learning about music puts us in a position to understand people from diverse backgrounds. It helps us understand their diverse tastes of music and how we can relate to them, according to their musical tastes. Though Music is universal, what someone loves is usually personal. Some people particularly enjoy Mozart while others enjoy Beethoven. Music is gives us an identity. This course helps us understand why some aspects of music are pleasing to us and why others are
