Music is found in every culture, past and present; some music is used for ceremonies and others are used for enjoyment. Music is used to bring together families, friends, and strangers. Without music, understanding one another is difficult, especially understanding another culture. The history of music dates back to approximately 55,000 years around the continent of Africa. From prehistoric music to modern music, the idea of music is still used today to express feelings and used in ceremonies. Music brought different cultures together and helped the cultures understand one another. From Ancient Egypt to Ancient Rome, music was used for communication, passing family history, and traditional stories. In the Renaissance period, music played an essential role in the people’s daily lives, it was used religiously, economically, and politically. During the 18th century in the United States, public schools began teaching the students music for the purpose of improving singing and reading in the church. By the end of the 18th century, music programs have spread throughout public schools in the United States. Transitioning from the 20th to the 21st century, the music programs in public schools have dwindled because of budget. The school officials should maintain music programs in schools because it increases the students’ knowledge of the cultural importance of music, it shows the students how music can benefit their education, and it increases their artistic creativity through the…
