If you take a moment to thing about when exactly the first time you listened to music was, I bet for most you have no idea, this can be related to the first time you took a breath or played your favorite sport. Humans know what things are important to them personally, but for the most part we don’t know exactly when we started to enjoy those things. For example I find that most best friends don’t remember how they met in the first place, or how they became best friends after meeting, I have the same problem. The same thing can be said about music, we may happened to know the first time we played an instrument or sang a song, but we can’t tell you when music became such a big part in our lives. When I was in elementary school we were required to take music class a couple times a week, this is further proof that music is important to us because why else would this be a requirement for children. The point is that, that music class was the first time most people in our school district learned to play a musical instrument; we learned to play the recorder. I remember enjoying this as most people enjoy playing a musical instrument when they do so, but it wasn’t life changing for me. As I mentioned my friend Alex who is still has a huge part in music today also learned this task in elementary school and piano lessons as a child, why would parents want such talents in their kids’ lives? Is it because music is so important to us that we see it necessary to teach our young how to play it? Or could it be that parents just need a break from their children and figure, “why not have them learn something while they get baby sat?” Personally I thing that we as humans realize just how important music is in our everyday lives, all of our lives and because we know this we want our children to learn to play it. I’m sure you’ve all heard stories of parents
