The Vocal or Instrumental sounds (or both) that combine to produce beauty, harmony and expression of emotions is termed as music. Music has a mesmerizing effect on individuals who may or may not be musically trained. This type of mesmerising effect is a pleasure to the auditory senses and the brain. It has been observed that the pleasurable effect produced by music is due to the release of Dopamine in the Forebrain. Thus music isn’t simply an art that is produced and performed for pleasure, but it is a science that broadens our understanding of harmony, pitch and rhythm and its relationship with the human brain.
Music has also been proved to assist in learning and memory. Baroque and Mozart music are slow beat melodies (60-80 beats …show more content…
Language that describes the emotions through melody also plays a key role in forming a relationship between them.
As indicated by various researches, music triggers the Ventral and Dorsal Striatum of the Forebrain. The Dorsal Striatum is connected to the regions that are involved in prediction and action whereas the Ventral Striatum is connected to the Limbic system which regulates motivated behaviours such as Fleeing, Feeding, Fighting and Sexual Behaviour. It is also the centre of emotional responses.
When the auditory senses experience any type of Music, Dopamine is synthesized out of amino acids, which transmit signals from one neuron to another through the circuits of the Brain. Dopamine is a hormone that gives a feeling of ecstasy during sexual intercourse, administration of certain drugs and breast feeding.
According to McGill research (January, 2013), during the Anticipation phase, (Climax of a song that is anticipated) when the climax occurs, Dopamine is released into the Dorsal Striatum, triggering a reaction in the Ventral Striatum that results in the release of Pure …show more content…

MUSIC AND THERAPY
Music has been proved to stimulate certain areas of the brain responsible for memory, motor control, timing and language. This discovery has lead to the direction of Music Therapy wherein particular music is played to stimulate the underactive parts of the Brain that help in curing Neurological Diseases and a variety of Emotional Disorders. When the auditory senses pick up music which is close to one beat per second or slower, the human body tends to relax which causes the heart beat and pulse to slow down. These changes aid in decreasing blood pressure in high blood pressure patients and also help in the treatment of children with ADHD (Attention Deficient Hyperactive Disorder) and Autism.
The beat at which the music is played (Example 60 beats per second) is very important in determining the emotional response of an individual listening to it. A song with lesser beats per second causes an individual to relax as it aids in reaching of Alpha brain wave stage. This stabilizes a person’s mental, physical, and emotional state of well being.
Fields and areas where music has been used to heal:
1. To cure ADHD, ADD, Cancer
2. Reduce
