Ever since I was a little girl, my dad instilled in me the importance of good music. We used to listen to Guns N’ Roses, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Nirvana, and many more. This music impacted my life and influenced me to be open-minded, care-free, and creative. This anecdote sparks some curiosity; am I the only one affected by music and art? A larger question would be whether or not music and art have affected society as a whole throughout history. Many studies have been conducted by experts and gurus alike regarding the impact of artists and musicians on other specific artists throughout their careers. Most of these studies focus on the effects music has had on society throughout history. Some of these studies focus on the multiple social movements sparked from music and art. Many artists have written books, magazine articles, and blog posts about what influenced them. The research that has been done focuses mainly on music and art’s influence on social movements—such as a second wave of feminism, the civil rights movement, and minimalism— fashion, and the way of life. Research shows that, over the years, art has been significantly impacted by music, and music has significantly impacted society by sparking many social movements. Sharon L.
