The neighbors hear noises from the house, but doubt any suspicions, just turning out the light. When morning comes it is too late and her soul flies to a place where she’s loved. The only remaining life of the little girl now is in a cemetery, a tall shiny rock in a shaded place. When I watched the music video, it gave me a better understanding of what the lyrics was meaning. The lyrics and the video are sure to put you on an emotional roller coaster ride. The video shows the little girl goes to school with a lunch bag in one hand and books in the other. She wears the dress as she wore yesterday, the linen and lace. The little girl becomes friends with a little boy who is next door. Angela is taken care of herself. Her mother doesn’t feed her or even care about her well-being. It shows the mother in the beginning of the video sitting on her bed in her bedroom, smoking a cigarette. The little girl walking out the door to school, no I love you sweetie have a good day from her mother. How strong Angela was, she kept praying someone would come rescue her from a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from. People need to realize how helpless children are in this cruel, heart breaking world we live in. At the very end of the video is a phone number to a hotline, called national abuse 4 kids. The video, the lyrics and being human, put a bunch of unsettling emotions in my heart and tears in my eyes. Everyone has seen or heard stories like this, if everyone stopped turning out the light, quit turning their heads, we could save a life working together. People who walk away or let fear keep their mouth shut, enrages me. Martina McBride is a very well-known singer and by her doing this video, gave the message about child abuse a powerful move. Her video contains pathos by being so meaningful and persuading. The emotional appeal was accomplished in multiple ways. The ethos, of both, was very convincing to me.
