I chose a song written by Stephanie Bentley and Rob Crosby, recorded by American Country artist, Martina McBride, released in two thousand and two. It’s a power balled, main theme is child abuse. A true event story about a seven year old named Angela Carter. The music video uses methods of patho’s and etho’s. Angela is dealing with the abuse from her alcoholic mother. The title Concrete Angel gives it a powerful message because no matter how hard her life got, she faced it with a smile. The video and the lyrics will leave you very emotional you are guaranteed to feel overcome with deep sorrow. Here’s a story reflecting all events in order as which they happened in the video. The lyrics, the little girl goes to school wearing a dress in hopes …show more content…
The neighbors hear noises from the house, but doubt any suspicions, just turning out the light. When morning comes it is too late and her soul flies to a place where she’s loved. The only remaining life of the little girl now is in a cemetery, a tall shiny rock in a shaded place. When I watched the music video, it gave me a better understanding of what the lyrics was meaning. The lyrics and the video are sure to put you on an emotional roller coaster ride. The video shows the little girl goes to school with a lunch bag in one hand and books in the other. She wears the dress as she wore yesterday, the linen and lace. The little girl becomes friends with a little boy who is next door. On an unsuspecting night, both of them were talking from their windows, than the mom violently enters the bedroom. She is shouting …show more content…
Angela is taken care of herself. Her mother doesn’t feed her or even care about her well-being. It shows the mother in the beginning of the video sitting on her bed in her bedroom, smoking a cigarette. The little girl walking out the door to school, no I love you sweetie have a good day from her mother. How strong Angela was, she kept praying someone would come rescue her from a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from. People need to realize how helpless children are in this cruel, heart breaking world we live in. At the very end of the video is a phone number to a hotline, called national abuse 4 kids. The video, the lyrics and being human, put a bunch of unsettling emotions in my heart and tears in my eyes. Everyone has seen or heard stories like this, if everyone stopped turning out the light, quit turning their heads, we could save a life working together. People who walk away or let fear keep their mouth shut, enrages me. Martina McBride is a very well-known singer and by her doing this video, gave the message about child abuse a powerful move. Her video contains pathos by being so meaningful and persuading. The emotional appeal was accomplished in multiple ways. The ethos, of both, was very convincing to me. Here are Martina McBride’s lyrics in her song, Concrete Angel and I wrote about what I seen in the music video.
“She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back

They use fear and empathy to leave an imprint on the high school students’ memories. The realistic accident scene will haunt them making them reconsider the choice to drink and drive. Moreover, the poem relating the thoughts of the unsuspecting victim with lines such as “Now I’m laying here on the pavement, and I hear the policeman say the kid that caused this wreck was drunk. Mom, his voice seemed so far away” (1:24-1:34) and “When I go to heaven, put Mommy’s girl on my grave” (2:11-2:15) is to make the students consider how their decision to drink and drive will also affect someone else, possibly a classmate, and the pain that their families will go through. Showing that the suspected drunk driver survives the accident without major injury and ends up being arrested also sends the message that his life has now changed forever as well.…

Raising Awareness of Child Abuse On January 19, 2010 i40films uploaded a music video of Jason Michael Carroll’s song “Alyssa Lies” which Carroll wrote in October 2006. The music video depicts a very clear and evocative message to the target audience—children are being abused and some do not have the strength to come forward about their abuse and like Alyssa some are being beat to death. With a strong appeal to pathos, the video targets the audience’s emotions and values as it works to motivate viewers to help end child abuse and to encourage those who are victims of abuse to come forward.…

When the video talked about how children were sent away to boarding school because their parents did not know how to handle them or communicate with them, it broke my heart. These children did not have regular communication with their families so they seemed to rely on the other children for love and support. Hearing the interviewees talk about their schooling adventure was pretty cool because they all had similar experiences. However, their experiences were not the best. The song depicted a man who lived all throughout his life as someone poor. He narrated his experiences and efforts he did to improve his status in life. This includes going to church, praying to God and working vigorously. As he is nearing his death, he wished that he will be buried in a fancy way where he will be placed in a golden box wearing a coat and tie. The song was not familiar to me and as I listen, it made me realize the reality of life.…

Women were not and or still not treated equally to men and we discriminated against them just because of being a different sex. In America, women were not even allowed to vote until 1918. Even slaves were treated equally much sooner before women were. Luckily, today in the United States, women are allowed to vote and are able to have the same rights as men, but there are theories of men getting paid more than women because of being a different gender.…
