An article written by Music&Memory says that, “Favorite music or songs associated with important personal events can trigger memory of lyrics and the experience connected to the music” (Music&Memory). Often times, even though you may not listen to your favorite song from years before, it will come on the radio and you will still be able to belt out the words much like you had before. Songs may also gather a sentimental meaning. Songs from your first dance will bring back memories of you and your best friends jumping and singing on the dance floor. Maybe the sports team you participated on in high school had a particular song that they always listened to. Hearing that song today might bring up memories from being on that team, warming up for a big game. Also in the article written by Music&Memory, it is stated that, “Persons with dementia, Parkinson’s and other diseases that damage brain chemistry also reconnect to the world and gain improved quality of life from listening to personal music favorites” (Music&Memory). Those with memory diseases are able to remember what their favorite songs are from long before. In the article written by Hanser and Mark, it is stated that, “A logical assumption that follows from the consistent finding of effect of music on the perception of emotion in another modality is that emotional stimuli in other modalities will also have an effect on the judgements made of the emotional properties of the music that is heard” (Hanser and Mark). This means that music will have an effect on how a visual (stimuli) will be perceived. This could be either good or bad. If a person is shown a graphic visual, but cheerful music was played before the visual was shown, it is probable that the person will see the graphic visual as less violent. On the other hand, if a person is shown a happy image but was listening to angry music, that same cheerful picture can be seen as more angry.
