Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
The body is like one huge scale that needs constant conservation to maintain balance for a stable state of survival. Homeostasis is the component that helps the body maintain balance. There are four core principles that help homeostasis keep balance which are, feedback loops, relationship of structure and function, gradients, and cell to cell communication. “Muscular homeostasis is cell to cell communication that coordinate their functions and maintain homeostasis using chemical messengers and electrical signals.” ( Amerman 27pg) The scale becomes unbalance when a disease inhibits the body and alters the homeostasis process. One disease that completely alters homeostasis in the body is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy or DMD. DMD is an X-linked disorder caused by mutations of the human gene that produces a dystrophin protein, which help produce muscle fibers. The lack of this protein causes weakens of cardiac and skeletal muscle fiber. This protein is necessary for

Another symptom a patient experience is massive fatigue because the muscle fibers for cardiac muscle becomes weaker, which reduces the oxygen levels. The scariest and most lethal symptom a patient may have is shortness of breath. This problem indicates heart complications. During the late teenage year’s chest infections and heart failure are very common.
However, there are various treatments for DMD to relieve the symptoms for the patient. One common medical treatment used for relief is steroids to slow the loss of muscle strength. Another medical treatment is use of amino acids, glutamine and arginine used for muscle protection. The coenzyme Q10 is used for antioxidants production, that help with muscle support. Lastly fish oil, an omega-3 fatty acid that can help with
