This source was about the the damage of the muscle due to doing eccentric exercises. During the eccentric exercises, the muscle length is depended on the amount of damage being applied to the muscle fibers. If the muscle fibers are greatly damaged by eccentric exercises, the muscle length will get longer. Eccentric muscle contraction is when the muscle fibers increases in length to accommodate resistance. Also, the article explained the differences effects from concentric and eccentric exercise. Concentric muscle contraction is the muscle shortens in length as it overcomes resistance. The researchers were able to review signs of injury accompanying the damages in the muscle fibers after the exercises by, a simple, non-invasive indicator to see the rise in passive tension. This allows the researchers to help athletes against muscle injuries.

Not only does it explains about eccentric exercises, it gives us a brief history of eccentric exercise. The article explained how eccentric training should be considered for patients during rehabilitation, because it is a low risk and low cost for the patients due to the exercise being simple but yet, effective. The article also explain how eccentric muscle is the opposite of concentric muscle contraction, because concentric muscle contraction is shortening the muscle fibers while eccentric lengthens the muscle fibers. The muscle fibers elongates while under tension due to the weight of the outside force being greater than the force generated by the muscle fibers. Therefore, the muscle fibers breaks down during a workout session and rebuild itself to be able to eventually lift heavier weights.
