Have you ever wondered why American movies and TV shows often feature a Russian villain? This is not a new concept; these biases have been strengthened through writing for millennia. In Ancient Greece, Sophocles, an Athenian writer wrote of the struggle between law and morality in his play Antigone. Antigone takes place in the conflict ridden city-state of Thebes, where Creon, the king, declaims that his nephew Polyneices is a traitor and anyone who tries to bury him shall die. Antigone, Polyneices’ sister defies him and buries her brother despite his threat, but must face death for her crime.…

A song that accurately describes Act I is “End Game” by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. The main part of the song goes, “I got some big enemies/Big Reputation, big reputation/ Ooh, you and me would be a big conversation”. This connects to Act 1 considering this is the act where we are introduced to Desdemona and Othello as a couple. They both have big reputations as Desdemona is the daughter of a senator and Othello is an important general and war hero to the town.…

In my opinion, I felt that the view of Ivan IIych Golovin did change because the picture perfect life he thought he ensured was never perfect to begin with causing him to become oblivious to it. He was just an average man with a middle-class job, but for him life was picture-perfect. What Ivan failed to realize is he wasn’t any special than other middle class men in his time period. Life was good until it took an unexpected turn when an unforeseen illness consumed his life, changing his prospective on how he had viewed things before. The blind fold he had was slowly coming off and the people he thought were close to him started to slowly float away one by one.…

An In-Depth Look at My Last Duchess In the poem “My Last Duchess” by Robert Browning, the main character, the Count speaks about his deceased wife and a painting of her to a mysterious listener at his private party. The Duchess’s story revolves around the internal conflicts between her and the Count. The main threads include the jealousy and self-importance of the Count, as well as the compassion of the Duchess. He subtly insinuates to the party-goer that his wife’s early death was caused by him, and asks them to share some time with him to explain his problems with his prior Duchess, and his intent to find a new partner.…
