When I was younger on my twelfth birthday I had been given two options that I would receive as a present. My mother would either take me to Six Flags or she would buy me a mini motorcycle. This was a difficult decision because, although I never been to Six Flags I’ve always wanted a motorcycle. I had asked for a motorcycle the year before but, she said no because it was too dangerous. Still until this day I wonder why she allowed me to get one a year later.…
Ossineke, Alpena, Michigan. If you use your right hand palm as a map of Michigan, it’s located in the point finger. It has been 2 months away from my arrival, time flew so quickly. The first time I came here, I figured out that I have been pronouncing my city name in the wrong way. The right one is Ossineke(Os-san-nek) ,not like my awkward Indonesia pronunciation with palembangnesse accent.…
“All buggers report to duty immediately! Our defense systems have been breached! All buggers report to duty immediately! Our defense systems have been breached! ” blared the loudspeakers repeatedly in my quarters, each message sending an echo down the narrow hallway leading to the other buggers’ quarters.…
The Dominican Republic In October of 2016 I went on an amazing vacation to the Dominican Republic. We were going with my Dad’s side of the family so there there 14 people that went including my Grandma Neicy, Papa Kelly, Aunts Kiley and Annika, Uncle Aaron, Chris, my cousins Charley, Marley, and Bowen, and of course my Mum, Dad, brother Cade, and sister Keira. We started the trip with a whole day of traveling, kicking it off at 6:30 am. We went to Atlanta as our connecting flight, then we were finally on our way to the D.R. Of course most of the plane ride from the US to the Dominican was mostly over water, so there wasn’t much of a view.…
Today was bright and sunny, it is the kind of day you wish you could go on a picnic. The weather was perfect with a slight breeze and rolling clouds in the sky, there was not a single rain cloud in site for miles. As I walked to work, I passed a park were there were children laughing, running and playing games. I did not pay attention to where I was walking, so I slipped and fell accidentally. What a hassle, I ripped my new jeans and was already running late to work.…
Throughout my life I have always been a daddy’s girl. I would beg my dad to take me hunting, fishing, golfing, to work, and just about anywhere my dad went I wanted to go. We had a close bond until he was diagnosed with stage 3 liver and colon cancer during my senior year of high school. I was devastated by the news since the doctors had given my father about 6 months to live. To top it off, it was the first year I was able to attend a Mardi Gras ball and that year I was supposed to walk my dad out since he was a masker who rode in the organization’s parade.…
A Buried Spectacle Every other year, my family and I travel to Chicago to visit with my uncle and his family. While we have our normal traditions, like eating deep dish pizza, we are always searching for new and interesting places to visit. During our last visit, our parents offered my sisters and me an unusual and unique experience. After spending the day at the Chicago Botanical Gardens, we drove to Ahlgrim Family Funeral Services, which is a funeral home in Palatine, Illinois. Undoubtedly, my sisters and I were extremely confused about why we were at a funeral home at six o’clock at night on our vacation.…
The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…
“Daddy I think that’s our tire,” I screamed. As our tire was rolling down the side of the snow covered hill with smoke coming off of it. Two years ago our trip to the Wisconsin Dells over spring break started off like like most of our family vacations. My mom wanted to go somewhere for spring break and my dad didn’t want to pay a lot of money.…
I remember this moment when I was around 6 years old, I went to Florida with my family and was staying at my grandmother’s condo. Outside of the condo was a pool that we went to a lot while we were down there, we called it the hot box, and at that hot box was an old man who seemed to be there every day he could be, with his wife. The man was a neighbor of my grandma when she lived in the condo, and this guy was a nice guy. He smelled of pickles as those were his favorite snack and he goofed off like a 10 year old boy even though he was 91. While in the pool I would always wear goggles, and that older man would always remind me of that.…
It was June 30, 2016 when my mom and I went to the San Diego zoo, and Disneyland. This was very exciting for my mom and I seeing as this was the first time either of us had been to the San Diego zoo, and it having been 9 years (when I was 6) Disneyland, only the last time we Had gone to Disneyland it was with my dad and two older brothers, where this time it was just my mom and I. On the day we arrived and the day after that we went to Disneyland, and the day after that we went to Disney’s California Adventure, and lucky for us on all three of those days we had nice weather. However, the following day we went to the San Diego Zoo, where even though there was nice weather, things didn't go as planned. We took a bus that would be taking us there,…
It wasn't a normal day at school, I was way to happy the whole day. I could barely stay in my seat while doing work or listening to the directions being told by the teacher. It was a Friday, not just any Friday though, it was the Friday before spring break of 2017. I could tell it was going to be one of the best spring breaks yet.…
Since childhood, spiders to me have remained the blood curdling, bone-chilling creature, with the ability to paralyze almost everyone – from adult men to teenage girls – with fear. As a teenage girl, I seem to be the stereotypical, terrified victim of the spider. Flashback to my earlier teenage years, and I was not moving that spider. There was no way – it was not a job for me. I was determined to avoid contact and proximity at all costs, even if this meant evacuating the room.…
Throughout life we are all faced with different challenges. Some challenges can help us progress as people, others can cause pain or hurt. Either way, as people I personally feel we are supposed to learn a lesson when we are faced with challenges. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. With that being said, it is entirely up to you on how you proceed after being faced with a challenge.…
It had possibly been one of the most exciting and entertaining days of my life. I’ve been wanting to get out of the house for awhile, and October break finally made it happen. My feet ached badly throughout the days I spent on vacation, but it was worth it as I went on several thrilling rides, ate mouth watering foods, and had an adventurous time exploring throughout the theme park. Then, at the end of the day in my hotel room, I looked at myself in the mirror. Anxiously, I was sitting at my desk throughout school.…
