My interest in film began when I met a movie, “The Mummy” in 2000. The director, Stephen Sommers, filmed this action and adventure movie about Egypt in 1999. This film told me different ethnic culture and it gave a shock to my heart. The mummy had the fast pacing with a lot of action, comedy, and special CG effects. It was my first time to watch the Egyptian culture movie and was interested. I was raised and grew up in Japan, where ninety percent of the population is Japanese. In 2014, I volunteered to edit the video to advertise on the international student association club at Berkeley City College. I filmed their event and interviewed the current and previous president of the club. I was astonished by so many work for making just 2 minutes video. After the filming, I realized that my footages had a number of issue such as quiet voice from interview, noize, many blurred footage, making shadow on interviewer’s face. The experience and realization motivated me to take several editing class. Asking professors and classmate to fix problem and kept re-editing same project over and over. There were more than 50 people were watching my work and people were clapping for my project. The sense of accomplishment was immeasurable. Through this experience, I was convinced that editing can be a powerful force in any video for advertising business, not only in film.
