My Family Ancestry

The ancestry of North America is one that is difficult to fully understand. There are many historical facts that tell us who the first people were to come to the new land, when they came, and why they came. We do are best to understand the lives of these people from centuries ago. However, I always thought one couldn’t really know unless they were talking about their family history. Boy was I wrong. We have this idea of are family background. We understand that we are just a branch on a large family tree, However, you do not understand how much there is to know about your family, or even how large your family is, until you research it. My great grandfather was one of 10 children. He moved to North America from England. He lived in Arizona for two years and then moved to Michigan. Ironically he lived in Mt. Morris which is not too far from where I live today. I was unable to find out why he moved to North America but I like to think it was similar to that of the Mayflower. In “The Mayflower Compact” (Longman Reader pg.5), it gives a little background information on the settlers. It states that European colonists came to America. It goes on then to describe some of their dreams and aspirations as they came to the new land. I would like to think this voyage was similar to that of my great grandfathers, I also would like to think that he had a dream for what North America would look like. He aspired to be successful here. Another very interesting thing about my great grandfather is that he married and took his wives last name, Rose. This is interesting to me because not a lot of men do this. It also makes me intrigued to know that my Grandmother and Mother could have grown up with a different last name. Rose is an important name in my family. My mother no longer has it because she remarried. However I am fortunate enough to have it as my middle name. I guess you could say I will always carry part of our family ancestry with me. After great grandfather married he and his wife had seven children. One being my Grandmother Rose who is still alive
