Your driving your new car down the streets with pride of how your father gave it to you as a present on your birthday. Unless somebody else behind you driving too. Is trying to multitask by texting and driving. And BOOM your new car is damaged by an idiot who tried to be a multitasker. What is multitasking? When I hear the word multitasking I think about how we ourselves do something by adding one or more things into a task. A good example is of us teenagers listening to music while doing homework or the example of the car accident above. Today we are going to talk about what is multitasking, how it affects us, what are the advantages and disadvantages, studies about multitasking, how and when we use it.
The definition of multitasking is ‘to work at several different tasks simultaneously’. New studies show that multitasking kills your performance and may even damage your brain. Research done at Stanford University found that multitasking is

It could be a time waster since you’ll need to switch from one task to another, and may require constant reminder of what to do. It would probably take you longer to finish two projects when you are jumping back and forth than it would to finish each one separately. Study estimates that switching between tasks can cause 40% loss in productivity. It can also cause you to do errors into whatever you are working on, especially if one or more of your activities involves a lot of critical thinking. Multitasking might keep you busy, but at the end of the day, the question is how much you have accomplished. If it is not much, your management might actually think that there is a drop in your efficiency level. Your brain, like any other muscle, can be a disaster due to multi tasking. Switching between tasks and making multiple decisions might tire your brain to an extent that you might end up being a poor or less-effective decision
