We all like to think that we can multitask and many things at once, but in reality, we are just switching what we do. Our brains can't do two things at once, it switches between them really fast and we may think we are fully engaged in both, but one of those tasks is receiving less attention. For example, reading/studying and listening to music. Many people tend to study in while listening to music, and I am one of those people. I can't go a day without listening to music and prefer it than silence. I recently found out than doing so can impair productivity. Since the brain switches from the lyrics in the song and the words in the paper, focusing on one action is strenuous work, and attempting to retain the information is almost impossible. So as my Professor suggested, I will study with music without lyrics, and/or in another language so my brain won't have to switch between the two tasks at hand, and I can focus on my
