Avery is doing her when there is a sudden flash from her phone. She picks it up and doesn't put it down until 10:00, realizing she forgot to do her homework. Distractions like phones and computers cause teens to multitask and they end up being driven away from their original task. Technology is a huge distraction in a teen's life. Technology easily distracts teens especially, because their prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed yet. In the article “Teens and Decision Making” by scholastic it states, “Since the brain is not fully developed until the early 20's... may put him or her at a higher risk of making a decision the teen could later regret.” The prefrontal cortex not being fully developed leads to rushed decisions based on emotion …show more content…
According to the article “Growing Up Digital” by Matt Richtel, “Sam Crocker... blames the internet's distractions for his inability to finish either of his two summer-reading books.” Teens who keep their devices nearby end up getting distracted and losing track of time. Then they leave their homework for last and it ends up being rushed. Therefore, just sending one text could lead to not doing homework at all. Some believe that technology has a positive influence on teens. They say that multitasking helps train the teen brain. However, they are obviously wrong because multitasking can cause “sensory overload”. In the article “The Teen Brain” by Debra Bradley Ruder it states, “But Jensen highlights a recent study showing how sensory overload can hinder undergraduates' ability to recall words.” Having to multitask on the internet is distracting teens from their original task. This is keeping some from doing well in school and socializing with real people. These distractions could one day lead to teens missing out on great opportunities in life, just because they wouldn't get off their

In the article, Your Phone Could Ruin Your Life, by Kristen Lewis it says, “digital distraction can be harmful, both mentally and physically”(Lewis 9). I think this means that young people are spending too much time on electronics both day and night. I can support this because it says that “80% of teenagers sleep with their phones nearby”(Lewis 7),and also, “your phone screen gives off a kind of light that tells your brain to stay awake”(Lewis 9). Another thing that supports this is that when you sleep with your phone under your pillow the radiation can cause cancer.…

And what they’ve found is that in most people, the prefrontal cortex and its links to other regions of the brain are not fully formed until age 25”(Greenblatt par. 5). This quote shows us that at the age of 18 our brain isn’t fully developed, however at the age of 25 it is fully developed which is when the prefrontal cortex links with other parts of the brain which helps with our decision making. So when we’re 25 we can make better decision or when our brain is fully…

Jean Twenge’s article “Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?” opens the mind to many situations and statistics that we never even knew had such a huge effect on teens. In her article, she has research on suicide, depression, and maturing rates from past generations to those of the iGens. Twenge uses many shocking claims to catch the readers eye and consider different ways to help these teens. While more adolescents prefer to be at home in bed on their phones, than out with their friends it’s safe to say the iGens are on edge of a “mental health crisis.”…

Introduction: An issue hotly debated is whether or not kids should have technology. Some people think it is great for kids to surround themselves with technology and the internet but research show that that is not the case. Kids think the internet is a great place but really there are inappropriate photos, videos, games, and websites. I don’t think technology is bad. Just like with math, you are taught the basics, the fundamentals but there is always a way around to make things easier, i.e. calculators. Children need to be shown how to live life without some of the major technologies first before they use it. Don’t just allow your child to sit inside all day and play video games. Don’t allow your teenager to just send text messages, make…
