Soft power, also known as personal power, are qualities in which an effective leader must possess; charismatic attraction and emotional inspiration as well as the power of persuasion and non-verbal communication. “Three skills are particularly important for the soft power part of the equation—vision, emotional intelligence and communication” (Business Leadership Qualities, 2009). This paper will discuss how I would increase my personal power while asserting my influence; appealing to a vision or higher purpose, use rational persuasion, helping people, while relying on the rule of reciprocity. Lastly, explaining how to develop allies while asking for what I want through the power of persuasion as mentioned earlier will be covered.
After taking a quiz provided via Berkeley, on emotional intelligence and getting 16 out of 20, I was labeled as “well-attuned to others ' emotions--a vital skill for forming compassionate connections” (The Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley, 2015). This does not make me proficient in being a leader with soft power, or skilled in the six principles for asserting my influence. I would have to
