Multiply Binary Choice And Construct-Response Items

Selected-response items such as binary choice items, multiply binary choice items, multiple-choice and matching questions are appropriate to use when the teacher wants to know if the student can identify, recalls and understands the lesson in which he/she is being assessed. These types of test are easy to grade because it provides a formative feedback about the students strengths and weaknesses.

Constructed-response items test are appropriate to use when teacher wants to assess open-ended essay questions and short-answer items that demonstrates the two lowest skills in Bloom’s taxonomy: remembering and understanding. This type of test questions demonstrates the students’ ability to extract information and use this as the basis for forming a complete answer and it helps the teacher assess students’ higher order thinking skills, acquisition of vocabulary, reading and writing process.
