Multiple Sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects millions of people around the world. Since my dad was diagnosed, my family is not able to do as many adventurous and fun things as normal families. I have a great deal of responsibilities in and around my home since my dad can't do much physical labor. My main goal in life is to become a Nurse Practitioner. The money from this scholarship would help me to meet my academic dreams to become a Nurse Practitioner.

My dad was diagnosed in 2000. Throughout the years his tolerance of physical activity has gone significantly down. His legs bug him after sitting for periods of time. This prevents us from being able to go on road trips or long car rides, flying to visit family, hiking, rock climbing, and other physical activities. When I was younger my dad would take me to go rock climbing all over the state. We had so much fun together, but now we can't do it as much because he has become a lot weaker and can't go as long.

When my dad was in high school, he was on the soccer team. He was truly talented, and he was even asked to go to a try out for the Olympics! I played soccer when I was younger, and I would have loved to have my dad coach me. He couldn't because his legs and feet would bug him the longer he was on them.

Since my dad has struggles with physical activity, I have had

When I was younger I had to go to an Endocrinologist because I wasn't producing enough growth hormone. I went every month for almost 6 years and every couple of months I had to get my blood drawn. Because I spent so much time at the Endocrinologist office and lab, I got to know the Nurse's and doctors. I loved them and I wanted to be like them. I took a Certified Nursing Assistant class last year and got my license. It was an amazing introduction to the health care field. I am currently in a Medical Assisting class to learn even more laboratory skills and get more experience in the health care

The list could go on and on about what is wrong with high school sports in this generation. It starts when they’re young, parent coaches who only qualify because they played the specific sport when they were younger. That is brought into high school, with their child playing the same sport they “coach”, not getting to experience anything other than what their parent’s knowledge and what they could tell them. I’m not saying all high school athletes who are coached by their parents aren’t going to get any better, but I am saying that if you are going to hire a coach for a program, make sure they are more qualified than just being a parent in the district or having a little playing experience. High school is the preparation stage for college, both academically and athletically.…

Multiple Sclerosis is an immune-mediated disease. This immune mediated process is directed towards the central nervous system. Through this process it causes the immune system to surround and attack the myelin around the nerve fibers in the body of the victim. Once this myelin has been stripped from the nerve endings, it is very hard for it to regenerate or repair itself. These attacks against the body interrupts and distorts nerve impulses traveling to the brain.…
