Some other conditions that was critical was the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis under the McDonald criteria. The other participants included a healthy control group made of friends and schoolmates of multiple sclerosis patients. The health control group criteria included healthy individuals with no illnesses, learning disabilities, head trauma and drug or alcohol abuse. Both individual age group involved are 17 years 11months and younger. The neuropsychological assessment batteries were administrated by trained psychologists in a single session. The neuropsychological battery test included Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Selective Reminding test, Spatial Recall Test, Symbol Digit Modalities Test, Trail Making Test, Modified Card Sorting Test, Semantic and Phonemic verbal fluency test, Oral Denomination test ,Token test, Indication of Picture, …show more content…
The journal’s goal is to validate the use of the Brief Neuropsychological Battery for Children with multiple sclerosis. In the beginning of the semester, we covered the topic of validity. The book “The Essential of Testing and Assessment: A Practical Guide to Counselors, Social Worker and Psychologist” states that validity is “the degree to which all accumulated evidence supports the intended interpretation of test scores for the intended purpose.”(Neukrung, 2015) At the end of the journal, numerous evidence was gathered to consider if the assessment was useful for the study. We also covered 3 types of validity: content validity, criterion-related validity and construct validity. I believe this journal used a criterion-related validity to measure the efficacy of the Brief Neuropsychological Battery for Children. The criterion-related validity description is the “relationship between a test and criterion a test should be related to.” (Neukrung& Fawcett, 2015) In this study, they compared measurements of current scores and previous scores to validate the assessment. The current study shows an increase of cognitive impairment in comparison to the previous study that was lower in cognitive impairment. It also states that the current screening batteries for children was highly discriminating in contrast to the previous study that did not typically show discrimination. (Portaccio et al,
