Rosie is a 40 years old female diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. She has fatigue, spasticity, muscle weakness, and balance problems among copious other symptoms that commonly affect people with multiple sclerosis. Her fatigue often interferes with her ability and desire to perform basic daily tasks. Furthermore, her fatigue can increase throughout the day and with each additional task completion. Extra exertion is required for her daily activities. Hence, energy conservation and simplification of tasks are very important. In addition, Rosie has decreased grasp strength in her upper extremities which can interfere with her ability to grasp items for prolonged amount of time. Thus, the use of various adaptive equipment can help reduce fatigue and work on her grip strength that’s required for many of her ADLs and IADLs. Many cosmetic items are also small and require precise fine motor skill. The first adaptive equipment is made with a sponge that’s attached to a hand cuff to help with grasp. She simply need to insert her eyeliner into the opening in the sponge to use it. The sponge will help with her grasp that’s required for holding on to the item and decrease the level of fine motor skill. In addition, she can insert other cosmetic items into the insertion in the sponge if desired. Another adaptive equipment component is a jar opener that she can use to open lotion bottle or foundation that come in a jar. She simply need to slide her hand into the adaptive equipment with her palm facing down and rotate her palm. The last component of the adaptive equipment is a mascara opener with a large handle attached. The adaptive mascara opener has a cap that is placed over the wand component of the mascara tube and she only needs to rotate the handle to twist the wand
