If designed and implemented effectively, project-based learning can prove to be a viable way to promote “the simultaneous acquisition of language, content, and skills provided that students in academic ESL classes can see the value of learning through projects, which the literature notes has not consistently been the case” (Beckett, 2005). In order to make project-based learning effective with ELL students, there is a certain foundation that needs to be set so that they aren’t overwhelmed with what they’re being tasked with doing. An important aspect of project-based learning is setting manageable goals for ELL’s too accomplish daily that lead up to accomplishing the main objective of the project. Having smaller, daily goals allows the students to only focus on the small part that they need to accomplish that day without the thought of the large project goal constantly looming over their heads. This allows the teacher to take time to model what the students need to accomplish that day and then have them, in their groups, work together so they can accomplish that
