Multimodal Learning

Everyone learns in their own unique way; whether it is visual, aural, kinesthetic, or read/write applies to each individual person. Sometimes though they get crossed over and multiple preferences can apply to one person. That event would be called multimodal learning. In specific my learning preference is multimodal with a proclivity for aural and read/write. For this scenario much of my learning can be accrued from many sources, but I happen to work best with activities that have the presenter or lecturer talking and that allow note taking. While learning is unique to everyone, some people can learn in a broader sense than others. My case being that I prefer combining different ways to process information. Applying a learning preference to further my goal of graduating into the medical field is very beneficial, not only to my study habits, but my grades as well. As mentioned before, using YouTube or other free streaming services are very beneficial to those who are aurally inclined. Rewriting notes, making flashcards, or just reviewing by writing out a recorded lecture can help a read/write inclined individual immensely. By having a …show more content…
Though with a focus on aural and read/write I learn best in a class room or lecture hall setting. Not only at home, but if I were to be hired in my respective field I could take notes during my shadowing or while at work to help further my understanding on the topic of study. It can even apply to hobbies one might keep, for example; I am an aquarist with a knack for live planted tanks. I often find that sitting down observing their behavior while looking for abnormalities help me figure out what might be wrong with the tank, if they might be sick, or bullied by other fish in the tank. Many of these apply to the different specific learning preferences but piece together as one whole when it comes to multimodal

According to The Vark learning styles questionnaire the two learning styles that I learn best with best are aural and kinesthetic. Aural means I learn best when hearing the information spoken and by asking questions about the concept I am learning. The other way I learn best is being kinesthetic which means I use my five senses and hands on experiences to help me learn. The Aural side of me likes to remember stories, examples, and jokes, to be to relate them to the concept I am learning. I have found that I when attended class and really focus on what the instructor or professor is teaching I am able to grasp the concept that is being taught.…

Introduction Sufficient analgesia is essential for canine patients undergoing oral surgery, such as dental extractions and orthopaedic procedures involving the maxilla and/or mandible. These procedures produce strong sensory stimulation that impact on general anaesthetic requirements and produce post-operative pain (Woodward 2008). Providing multimodal analgesia for our patients is beneficial for several reasons. From a clinical standpoint, pre-operative local nerve blocks decrease the level of intraoperative and postoperative pain and result in smoother recoveries (Woodward 2008). Multimodal analgesia may encompass administration of opioids, tranquillizers, and local anaesthetic agents as adjuncts to general anaesthetic agents.…

The purpose of this paper is to identify and compare the meaning as well as the differences of three learning styles as they relate to both the academic and professional realm. I have chosen these three styles because I believe the majority of people are either visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. Each person has his or her own way of converting, processing, storing, and retrieving information. The way we connect the information is an important part of the learning process. Learning is an individual process unique to everyone and as individuals we tend to prefer different learning methods.…

Learning is different for many people. For me, learning for learning's sake is the only way that children can actually push themselves to learn new information and find out what they love doing. Being able to learn at a young age in school is such an important trait to have. It allows students to be able to push themselves in the future to be able to do exceptional at their classwork and be able to find out what they love to do. Our educational system is flawed in this way, we just don’t let children learn on their own time.…

When working with people that are more inclined to another learning style or method, you can learn from them while also helping to teach your own learning style to those around you. For a kinesthetic learner, learning how to make more succinct and cogent notes would help when there is something of importance that is mentioned within the learning experience that is complex enough to not be able to commit it to memory; something that is more of an abstract quality would be an example of this. The ability to listen, write it down, and read it back without any signal loss is key to increasing your multimodal learning experience. Additionally, being able to visualize something, as well as identify from a presented visual artifact, is a trait that many strong kinesthetic learners need to increase skills within. The abstract modeling of something within the mental space can prove advantageous when dealing with several ideologies within a chosen field; such interventional modeling, disease cluster grouping, and biostatistical analyses within public health journal articles.…

I take a lot of notes in most of my lectures so when I am studying for an exam I can see what topics the professor focused a lot on. This helps me see what main points I need to study and what minor points I can skim over. I used this skill on my last exam and it helped me get a better grade than I expected. Looking at the test questions for clues helps me understand what the question is focusing on so I can remember the exact topic and hopefully pick the correct answer. I have used this skill throughout high school and even in college.…
