Multimodal Learning Styles

Improved Essays
When I took the VARK exam I was genuinely surprised with my results. My results concluded that I have a multimodal learning preference with a high score in kinesthetic. Before this exam I would have not considered myself a kinesthetic learner, I always thought I was just a visual and hands on learner. But after researching what kinesthetic was and what kind of approaches a person with this type of learning styles does, it all clicked for me. As a kinesthetic learner I appreciate examples, especially ones that portray to the real world and are not make believe. Another example is collecting samples, when I was a child (and still sometimes to this day) I would collect all sorts of rocks. I would bring them inside and put them around the house

According to the Learning Styles Inventory. My most developed and strongest learning styles are bodily-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. The test reveals that I am not highly developed in any particular type of intelligence and I am weak and underdeveloped in visual-spatial, logical-mathematical, and naturalist intelligences. The book suggests that as a person with stronger interpersonal strengths, study strategies such as going over notes with fellow students are helpful. Based on my results as a strong verbal-linguistic individual, rewriting my notes in order to eliminate excess information and to hone into the important ideas, would be beneficial to my success in this course.…

Two Styles of Educating Ones Self Education, is it strictly confined to the classrooms, or it is more than that. Can a person really learn more outside on their own, in Keith Gilyard’s “First Lesson”, he had already been educated on life before he had cut teeth. Learning can happen at any time if you try to educate yourself or if life feels like it’s time to be taught. Frederick Douglass explains in “How I Learned to Read and Write”, the ways in which he took education into his own hands and formed his own classroom throughout his daily life. These two authors show two distinct styles on how to educate yourself, rather your teacher is life choices or if your teacher is a Mr. or Mrs. Whether you perceive education as a burden or the holy grail it is important, because if you pay attention at the right moments you can learn amazing things from books or just your eyes.…

Kinesthetic learning style is a style that involves learning by touching or doing things. Kinesthetic learners may find it easier to make a model rather than just read or just look at the book. Kinesthetic learners prefer touching the information by being creative. Kinesthetic learners want concrete, multi-sensory personal experiences in their learning so presenting concepts during lectures using suitable clinical case scenarios, analogies, real life examples, and metaphors will benefit kinesthetic learners, as will incorporating videos and movies. Teaching with multisensory approaches will also satisfy the need of multi-modal learners, especially those who are not satisfied until they have had input from all their preferred…

    VARK Inventory Reflection

Reflecting on my results from the VARK and MBTI inventories, I am not particularly surprised by what I see. The VARK inventory came back with a result of multimodal: 11 in visual, 13 in aural, 13 in read/write, and 14 in kinesthetic; whereas the MBTI inventory resulted in being an INTP: introvert, intuitive, perceiving, and right in the middle of thinking and feeling. I have no problems being a visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic learner, or all at once, if available. Although I prefer to learn hands on and by teaching others what I already know, I can adapt to any learning or teaching style. While this does pose it’s advantages, I have always found it hard to apply myself with learning things that I am not wholeheartedly interested…

Tactile Learning Humans are vastly different from one another; therefore, it is not surprising that there are multiple learning styles. In fact, there are visual, aural, verbal (reading/writing), and kinesthetic learners that can be combined to for the acronym VARK (Chick, 2016). These various learning styles are somewhat self-explanatory; however, it is important to understand the learning style that works best for an individual to be a successful learner and trainer. Kinesthetic learners or tactile learners are those that learn best from touching, felling and doing a task. Kinesthetic Learners…

Kinesthetic learning is learning through experience from the application of your senses. I apply the kinesthetic learning style when it is available, such as labs for science, or on the job training. For myself this is the learning style where I can comprehend and understand the most as I will more likely be able to remember the experience. While the aural learning style is available to be used widely, kinesthetic learning is less broad. As a narrower field, it cannot always be practical to some things such as reading, or…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal. Multimodal is a combination of two or more of the learning styles. Those who are multimodal in their preferences can be more flexible about how they take in and give out information than those with a VARK profile that emphasizes a single preference.…
