Multimodal Learning Style

Learning Style:
My learning style according to the VARK questionnaire was multimodal learning preference. The scores from the test show that I scored higher in the visual and kinesthetic strategies. I have always learned better with hands on experiences and with the use of visual aids. The results show that I will probably learn better from visual aids and hands on verses just by reading. When I was required to read out of a book and take a test, I have to reread parts of the text to completely understand it. If the same information was shown to me in a hands on way, I would understand it quicker. The biggest problem that I have with just reading information is I find myself not paying attention. The least little bit of disturbance and my attention turns to what is happening around me. After taking the questionnaire from VARK, I was not surprised by my learning style. I have always had a stronger learning ability through the use of visual aids and by hands on teaching versus listening to a lecture or just reading from a text book. I am not saying that I cannot learn by lecture or reading, but

The first goal that I need to start thinking about is figuring out how many classes that I need to take each term. The reason why this is a goal is because of a leadership turn over at my current place of employment. The turnover has added additional work for me. I now have to plan work schedules and go to meetings along with doing my regular work. Before I had a set work schedule and knew what I had to do from day to day. I also have two children at home, so every day when I get home I have to help with their homework. It usual takes a few hours and then I have my own school work to get done. The next goal that I need to start planning for is to take the land surveying exam. My goal after I get a degree is to go and take the land surveying exam, this will help me in my current

According to The Vark learning styles questionnaire the two learning styles that I learn best with best are aural and kinesthetic. Aural means I learn best when hearing the information spoken and by asking questions about the concept I am learning. The other way I learn best is being kinesthetic which means I use my five senses and hands on experiences to help me learn. The Aural side of me likes to remember stories, examples, and jokes, to be to relate them to the concept I am learning. I have found that I when attended class and really focus on what the instructor or professor is teaching I am able to grasp the concept that is being taught.…

Essay #5 The comparison between the fox and the hedgehog can be nuanced in their distinctions. The two animals represent knowing a little about everything as compared to knowing everything about one or few things respectively. There is even a good argument for both being needed to successfully navigate life’s everyday problems. When used as a tool, this duality can help to classify people into two simple groups.…

When I took the learning styles assessment it concluded that I am a tactile learner, which indicates that I comprehend by doing or touching. It is difficult for me to process information just by listening or reading, I would have to physically write it down over and over for it be imprinted into my brain. I use a lot of hand gesture while speaking because it helps me remember what the situation was about, and if I need to spell out a word I have to fingerspell it out in the air. Or if I’m trying to solve a math problem in my head, I would sometimes use my finger as a pen on my desk and solve it with my imagination. The assessment states that tactile learners use flashcards and arrange them into groups by relationship in order to absorb the…

In the learning style assessments that I have taken the most important things I have learned about myself and the way I learn, is how I grasp information through a more logical approach along with visuals. I have experienced this in the duration of my first college semester and also throughout High School as well. I have always gravitated toward technological/scientific oriented classes. Computer Maintenance was my favorite course in High School. I experienced hands on IT work fixing computers, and visuals of computer components.…

Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…

Pushing Beyond Memorization Have you ever walk away from a class and said to yourself "I never understand anything that the professor was talking about;" or "this class is boring, and it doesn 't hold my attention, how I am going to pass the exams?" So how can you take the most uninteresting class and learn the material for life? This isn 't an easy task by far, but as the saying goes if it 's easy it 's most likely not worth it. You have to work hard for the better things in life, the same goes for learning.…

For this discussion, I chose the article, “Learning-Style Characteristics of Adult Learners” by Andrea Honigsfeld and Rita Dunn. There are many different learning styles mentioned in this article that affect college students today. The one thing that stood out to me the most was the Dunn and Dunn Learning Style Model. The most common learning styles include those of which affects a person’s environmental, emotional, sociological, physiologic, and the way they process material. When putting these things together you can determine what type of learner a person is and how well they will do when processing information (Dunn & Honigsfeld, 2006).…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal. Multimodal is a combination of two or more of the learning styles. Those who are multimodal in their preferences can be more flexible about how they take in and give out information than those with a VARK profile that emphasizes a single preference.…

In today's society learning styles are a lot more prevalent and held with a higher level of importance in all aspects of learning; as people have recognised everyone is different and have their own unique way of completing tasks. The two learning styles I will critically compare and evaluate whilst applying it to studying business are: The VAK learning style(Visual, Auditory and kinesthetic) by Nick Fleming and Honey and Mumford learning style based on the work of Kolb. VAK The VAK method is arguably the most used test to find out which learning style suits an individual best. Personally I have taken this test and I came out as a visual learner. I have found this beneficial when applied to business studies especially when revising for exams.…

    1) According to the article, “Theories and Practices of Multimodal Education: The Instructional Dynamics of Picture Books and Primary Classrooms,” multimodality is defined as a product that includes multiple modes of representation. These modes represent elements of print, visual images, audio, and design. In other words, the term “text” is no longer paper and pencil to make print, but can be a combination of many other modes as well. This new way of thinking about text and what it entails puts a whole new perspective on literacy and its definition.…
