In today’s ever-competitive healthcare market, patient safety, and quality of care is one of the top factors of an organizations survival. Quality improvement (QI) and safety have become a major component of our larger healthcare organization, because they value our patients, employees, and families, but why are we not following in their footsteps? A particular new idea that would be useful in a smaller unit is an action board, which allows anyone to write down a particular quality or safety problem (Steelman, 2014). In addition, the use of Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR), which can assist with identifying the problem, examining evidence, and determining if a solution will be applied in order to improve communication handoff (Eberhardt, 2014).
