Multidimensional Coping Inventory Personality Analysis

Improved Essays
The Multidimensional Coping Inventory personality test looks for what kind of coping strategies are people more inclined to use. It looks at problem-focused coping, emotion-focused, and avoidance coping strategies. On the problem-focused coping it measures the inclination for someone to actively cope, plan, suppress completing activities, restraint, and the use of instrumental social support. My scores for these were all high compared to this mean. This indicates that when I have a problem I am less likely to avoid the issue and more likely to want to immediately fix the problem. I am the type of person who cannot just sit there but needs to immediately make a plan and will use her resources such as friends to help her in making that plan. …show more content…
It goes off of two scales, the avoidance scale and the anxiety scale. Specifically this test focuses on how you feel in romantic relationships. It tests more generally as opposed to only the relationship you are in now. My score on the avoidance scale was a 67 which relatively high compared to the average norm for college students. To me this indicates that I am not comfortable with being close to people and relying on them. This makes sense to me because I never like to rely on others I am the person in the group who wants to do everything because I do not trust that everyone will do their part. My score of 76 on the anxiety scale indicates to me that I am slightly higher than average on the attachment anxiety scale. This means that in general I do not get too worried about how availbale my partner is and that I am relatively fine with some space. Although I do appreciate if my partner is more …show more content…
This test was originally created in order to see which people were type A or type B because it was shown that Type A people participated in activities or behaviors which were prone to heart attacks. On this scale I scored a 12 and compared to other college students it shows that I am above the mean of 8.4 which means that I have more Type A tendencies. This result was not surprising because people who know me have referred to me as very structured and someone who gets under a lot of stress if there is no plan for an activity of some sort. Also a question that specifically stuck out to me were the questions about problem solving because when I am under stress it is really hard for me to just sit around and do nothing I have to be productive. Also I have always been very driven and goal-oriented. I always have to be working toward something and if I don't I feel like I have no purpose and it makes me anxious. Furthermore, I have always aimed to work hard and could never be one of those people to just “go with the flow”, frankly those people worry me sometimes. All these examples are very type A, and contrast to the Type B persons who are usually more easy going and take their time with

Type A people would most likely be more successful in leadership roles and entrepreneurship since Type A’s are typically self-starters. Moreover, Type B’s would do well in a sales job, or promotion and marketing of a product or service, since they are ordinarily more talkative, persuasive, and better at forming relationships. What behavior type a person is does not depend on age, gender, or race. According to Pink, we are all born as Type I people, and Type X behaviors are learned through our experiences at home, school, or work. Research has shown that once people learn to have a more positive and intrinsic attitude and unlearn negative behaviors, their motivation can change.…

The most important concept in module 3 is Coping Behavior because it taught me that: 1) you can cope with a behavior because it is not far from your preferred style and 2) it is more than likely harder to cope with a behavior because you have moved further away from your preferred style. Coping can produce negative or positive behavior and will impact your work positively or negatively. Coping helps you process certain situations that may be more stressful than normal, but it depends on if you are an adaptor or an innovator which will determine a successful or unsuccessful outcome. Both adaptors and innovators will, at some point, have issues with coping. As an adaptor, I do not cope well in environments that may go from a minimum change to…

In “Daily stress and coping styles in adolescent hopelessness depression: Moderating effects of gender,” Rodriguez-Naranjo and Caño aimed to link daily stress and coping styles as factors contributing to HD in adolescence. Specifically, they hypothesized that adolescents with a higher number of daily stressors would have higher levels of HD. Also, adolescents with higher scores of avoidant coping style will have higher levels of HD while adolescents engaging more in active and internal…

We can distinguish three main coping style and describe them as a (1) fight, (2) flight or (3) freeze reaction. First style refers to overcompensation, which means actively fighting the schema through acting in an opposite way. Second style focuses on schema avoidance through minimizing frequency of their activation (e.g. avoiding situations in which certain schema is activated). In a third coping style an individual passively and helplessly surrender to a schema.…
