In the story “A Wedding in Toronto” by Austin Clarke, his family had accepted his bride more than her own family where they had not bothered showing up on her wedding because of her spouse’s ethnic background. Thus, being more knowledge and multicultural makes us more motivated to get to learn about ourselves while maintaining their identity and responsibilities within the society and still be able to retain dual identities. As often as we interact with one another, this is a huge…
The town that I grew up in is known for being a very diverse town – the high school that I graduated from back in Clifton, New Jersey, had around 3,300 students enrolled from many different backgrounds, races, nationalities, class, and religions. Walking through the hallway of Clifton High School one would hear many different languages and see many people who look exceptionally different from one another. Because the high school had many students from different backgrounds and wanted the students to be well aware and accepting of this, the school offered various clubs and organizations such as: sports teams, French, Spanish, and Italian clubs, a cheerleading team, and even a pep band. These clubs and organizations allowed many students of different…
Although this was a class assignment, my wife and children came along with me. I thought it was a good way for us to enhance our cultural awareness, and experience a culture different from our own. I was not disappointed. Immediately, I felt a sense of pride and honor as I walked in, and talked to individuals inside the arena. Many of these people had booths set up and were selling handmade merchandise, which my wife and children absolutely loved.…

The source is written by many different authors and it is mainly edited by the 4 authors mentioned above. These authors are one of the best scholars that tackle the controversial ideas of diversity, and Canadian policies. It respectfully challenges the saint idea that multiculturalism is great for Canada, however it does not claim Multiculturalism is actually bad. It continually demonstrates the underlying capability, the conventional restraints and the miniscule disorders of the policies and blinding discourse of multiculturalism.…
According to Bennett (2014), multicultural education is also about raising awareness on the State of the Planet and how the people and places change throughout time. This website offers social studies lessons on life in the past and life in the present, while providing different…
This will allow students to work together to be racially conscious of those of a different racial background. If I could implement three incentives to promote racial consciousness among students struggling with white racial identity development I would identify any racial barriers that would prevent that student from being racially conscious of others. This can include racial bias, lack of understanding, and stereotyping just to name a few. Secondly, it is important to bring awareness to racial and ethnic issues. Having multicultural group meetings for students to attend will present the opportunity for open discussions and allow students to discuss and express their views of their racial identity.…
Federal Way is a highly diverse city and community. Further, I have spent the past four years attending one of the most diverse schools in the nation, where everyone with different cultural backgrounds come together with one goal, to graduate high school. There are a variety of cultural aspects of Federal Way as a community that has influenced my growth as an individual. Specifically, within the high school itself, every Monday through Friday I walk the halls to each class knowing that I am not a part of the minority of the school. For example, I come from an Asian family, as both of my parents came to America as immigrants, my father from Vietnam and my mother from Lao.…

Throughout my life, I have been immersed in Florida’s diverse cultural environment. In Jacksonville and other surrounding cities like Orlando and Miami, I have appreciated all the influences from the Hispanic, Asian, European, and African cultures around me. I even have the privilege of living with such diversity even in my own household through my Puerto Rican and African American heritage. Further, my exposure to multicultural communities extends to my high school, which is composed of students with various backgrounds. Every school year, there is a showcase called “Multi” that represents dances from cultures all over the world.…
This time I went to a powwow for my multicultural event. It was not my first time at a powwow. Since I am part of an Aztec Dance group back at home. The Aztec dance group has been invited to dance at different powwows and I have had the opportunity to travel and learn a little bit more about different powwows in Minnesota and also in Wisconsin. The biggest powwow I’ve been part of, was the one in Wisconsin.…
For the culture shock assignment, I decided that I would go to a Mexican grocery store. I went to Bonito Michoacán. Before going, I decided that in order to have the best experience I would have to look around the whole store and buy something. To make things more exciting I decided I would buy something to make for lunch and possibly a treat. On my way there, I was kind of nervous.…
Due to the continuous increase of cultural diversity within the demographics of schools, the importance of multiculturalism awareness cannot be stressed enough. No matter the setting and situation an individual encounters, diversity will always be present. Perhaps the most important thing a teacher should take into consideration when creating a unit on multiculturalism is to think about which “ideas will endure long after the books are closed and years after the students leave their classrooms (Nieto & Bode, p.345)”. It can also help decrease the likelihood of cultural differences that are behind most of the issues in today’s society. Schools have made some progress in adding lessons about important ethnic figures in history, Black History Month and Hispanic History.…
