Multicultural Autobiography Reflection

Multicultural Education Autobiography and Reflection Throughout the entire course, as a class we have covered a variety of different topics ranging from ethnicity to gender and sexual orientation. Some of the topics covered in our class were easier to discuss while being able to express our own thoughts. Other topics were topics that we had been aware of, yet we did not feel so comfortable discussing because as humans we tend to care what others might think of us when we speak up. For example, sexual orientation is a topic where many individuals tend to have a certain opinion, yet many are not comfortable sharing how they truly feel towards this topic. I come from a background where some of my family members are part of the LGBTQ community along with a big portion of my friends. From a very young age, I was exposed to this wonderful community of human beings who had suffered from discrimination and hateful acts all because they identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer. I have witnessed and felt their pain and fears and I think that no human being deserves to experience what some of these members of the LGBTQ community have had to face. Throughout my high school years and college years I have come across individuals who hate the LGBTQ community just because they have a problem accepting those individuals’ sexual orientation and gender preference. I have also found myself in awkward conversations and situations with members who opposed to the LGBTQ community, these situations sometimes become really intense because they don’t share my personal ideas of supporting the LGBTQ community. Plenty of times I have been judged by those who are against the LGBTQ community, I have been mistreated by insults and name calling all because I have decided to support the LGBTQ
