I have learned several things throughout the course in Introduction to Multicultural Education and Diversity- things that will help me in the future, as well as to help me grow as a person. I learned how to communicate properly with individual differences, the history of African Americans, to overcome my own biases, to sympathize with guest speakers, and to make a difference in the community. Society is filled with individual differences of ethnicity, race, gender, SES, sexual orientation, religion, exceptionalities, language, and geographic area. I have learned how to communicate properly with all of these differences, so I can make a difference in the community and in education. In my future classroom, I will be able to incorporate these differences by creating an atmosphere that is comfortable to every student. For example, read multicultural books, celebrate multicultural themes, play music, group work, art/crafts, and etc. My favorite video/reflection was Nick Vujicic …show more content…
My favorite speaker was Dr. Craig because he taught me that everything is possible if you put your mind to it. He is an amazing person that has overcome many obstacles, in addition to being an inspiration to society. Dr. Craig stated “love people and students for who they are, what they can do, and they will succeed.” That statement sums up how all teachers should think and act when they walk into the classroom. Josefina Garcia Davila helped me to understand what it was like to move to a new country where she had no friends, did not speak English, and had to start a new school. According to Davila “Appreciate, value, celebrate, and embrace differences- do not try to change people, just embrace them!” This helps me as teachers because it shows me that I need to integrate every student’s background into my classroom and embrace it, instead of cover it
