For this assignment I am choosing to talk about the preschool age group specifically. As I was reading Chapter 1 Ramsey talks about the multicultural goals that teachers and parents should have for their children. I think he does a very good job at explaining why certain activities and why we should have these goals set for our young children. He breaks up these goals and explains them into different groups; Strong flexible identities, Sense of connection, Critical thinking skills, Confidence and persistence, and Optimism and activism.

I believe that this is one of the most important in a classroom because it allows your child to express themselves and create whatever they want. Ramsey said on page 10 chapter 1 for a child to create a strong flexible identity, “They develop as children experiment with a wide range of roles and possible physical attributes in there play and art work.” Such as acting as a puppy or a firefighter, and portraying themselves with purple skin. “These explorations lead to flexible, multifaceted identities that change over time.” To help with different gender or race roles there should be different pictures around the classroom that the teacher should talk about with the students. Such as different races or males and females doing things that people usually stereotype. If you show children that those are things that shouldn’t be stereotyped at a young age hopefully they will better understand it and it will stick with them longer in life.
